DESCRIPTION

Maule valley corresponds to Central valley´s south area and has the largest vineyars plantations of all Chile. This valley has a long viticultural tradition that comes from the Spanish colonial times. Nowadays there are 30.000 hectars of vineyars planted in this part of Chile. During mid 80ths exports increased in Chile and also wine productions, therefore changed the way to elaborate the wines.

This development allowed to introduce new irrigation systems, new technological innovations and a larger amount of European vineyards. Besides, you can find the following grapes in Maule valley: White vines: Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Torontel, Muscat. Red vines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillón, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Carignan, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Petit Verdot. Tour begins visiting Miguel Torres´cellar, this Spanish man is a visionary in wine business. In 1980 he realized that in Chile exist the three most important elements to produce a great wine: soil, weather and grapes.

Decition to choose Chile for its excellent climatic conditions were not enogh, Miguel Torres was the first one bringing to Chile new technologies for wine production, such as the fermentation in stainless steel tank and aging in French oak barrels. Innovation line developed a project to recover “Pais grape” , introduced to Chile approximately 500 years ago; known in Spain as ” Listan” and in New World Colonies named as ” Mission”. The result: was born a unique sparkling wine, 100% Chilean, a reward for the country and its people, “Santa Digna Estelado”.

After the visit to the winery you will enjoy a lunch where wine and food are paired, enjoying the armony between wine and food. Then tour continues towards J. Bouchon winery, located in Maule valley, where the characteristics of their cellar is a reflect of their philosophy, they work in simple adobe constructions built at the beginning of XX Century. The wines are made in a natural environment, preserving traditions and the less possible energetic use. Tour to the vineyards and cellar. Wine tasting. Departure: 8:00 am.
